East Baton Rouge Schools Launch Free Summer Meals Program Across Parish
More than 80 distribution sites will operate through July 31, providing breakfast and lunch to all children and teens under 18 years old, regardless of their income or school enrollment status.

BATON ROUGE, La. — With the heat of summer rising and school doors temporarily closed, East Baton Rouge Parish School System is stepping up once again to fill the nutritional gap for thousands of children across the parish. The district officially launched its Free Summer Meals Program on Tuesday — a lifeline for families needing consistent access to healthy meals during the long break.
More than 80 neighborhood sites — including schools, community centers, and churches — are now serving nutritious, chef-prepared breakfasts and lunches to all youth under 18, regardless of income, school enrollment, or background. This parish-wide initiative is not just about food; it’s about ensuring every child has the fuel they need to grow, play, and thrive throughout the summer months.
“Too many of our children go without during the summer,” said an EBR Schools spokesperson. “This program helps close that gap and sends a clear message: No child in East Baton Rouge will go hungry on our watch.”
The program will run through July 31, with breakfast available from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meals must be consumed on-site to comply with federal guidelines, which also helps foster community and ensures meals are served fresh.
The district is encouraging parents and guardians to participate by registering online through the EBR Schools website. Whether you're a working parent, a grandparent raising grandchildren, or a community leader looking for support, this program is here to serve.
