911 Service Restored in East Baton Rouge After Statewide Outage

BATON ROUGE, La. — Emergency call service in East Baton Rouge Parish and across much of Louisiana was restored late Thursday afternoon after a statewide 911 outage left residents unable to connect with dispatchers for roughly three hours.
The interruption, caused by multiple fiber cuts in Mississippi, disrupted the nation’s universal emergency line in several Louisiana parishes, including Orleans, Jefferson, Lafayette, and St. Bernard. The outage also reached into parts of Mississippi, where agencies faced similar problems.
In Baton Rouge, parish officials moved quickly to direct residents to an alternate emergency number, (225) 389-3300, ensuring help remained accessible. Backup systems helped reroute dropped calls while technicians worked to repair the fiber network.
By about 4 p.m., reports of service restoration began surfacing across the state. East Baton Rouge confirmed its system was back online soon after, reassuring residents that calls were once again being properly received and dispatched.
AT&T, which provides the infrastructure for the affected system, said teams were immediately dispatched to locate and fix the damage. “We understand how critical these services are and appreciate the patience of our customers,” the company said in a statement.
Local leaders noted that while no major lapses in emergency response were reported, the outage served as a reminder of the vulnerability of vital communication lines and the importance of reliable backup measures.
