From jazz to fair food, Baton Rouge’s fall calendar offers something for everyone

Concerts, theater, art exhibitions and food events will carry the Capital Region through the final months of 2026.

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Capital Region’s entertainment calendar is filling up with more than one kind of night out. From late September through New Year’s Eve, residents can choose among Afro-Cuban jazz, alternative rock, country and folk music, live theater, visual art and festivals where food is part of the main attraction.

October brings several chances to enjoy art and music together. The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will host Sundays in St. George on Oct. 11 and 18 at Highland Road Park, with outdoor performances, local art and food vendors. On Oct. 17, the Boots & Roots Fall Fest is scheduled to feature the Michael Foster Project, arts and crafts, and food at 11890 Gibbens Road.

Jazz fans can hear the Alfredo Rodríguez Band featuring Pedrito Martinez at Manship Theatre on Oct. 7. The performance opens the Arts Council’s River City Jazz Masters anniversary season with Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz. The series returns Nov. 11 with Wendell Brunious and The New Orleans Legends, bringing traditional New Orleans jazz to the same stage.

For visual arts, the Arts Council’s Shell Gallery will present “COUNTED: Picture the Power Volume II” from Oct. 5 through Dec. 4. The photography and storytelling exhibition focuses on community life and civic participation beyond Election Day. Its opening reception is scheduled for Oct. 9.

The free Ogden Park Prowl on Oct. 24 offers another way to meet local artists. Organizers expect more than 100 artists, makers and vendors, music on three stages, and food for purchase across the Mid City neighborhood.

Food lovers can make a day of the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair, scheduled for Oct. 22 through Nov. 1 at the Airline Highway Fairgrounds. Alongside rides and live entertainment, the fair plans to offer classic fair treats and Cajun favorites. On Oct. 31, the Louisiana Book Festival at the State Library of Louisiana adds author events to the downtown calendar, with food among the offerings for visitors.

November’s stage lineup reaches beyond jazz. Manship Theatre lists the rock tribute show “Beatles vs. Stones” for Nov. 12 and the alternative rock band Fastball for Nov. 13. On Nov. 14, “Michalopoulos: The Art of Celebration” will pair a documentary screening with an art exhibit, reception and artist discussion. The one-man play “The Story of Me and My Dad” follows Nov. 15.

The year closes with holiday performances and public celebrations. Downtown’s Festival of Lights is set for Dec. 5. Manship Theatre will host “Cool Winter Nights, Hot Jazz” Dec. 8-9, followed by three performances of the family opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” Dec. 18-20. Country, folk and Americana enter the mix Dec. 29 with “Hitmakers Come Home for the Holidays.” On Dec. 31, Red Stick Revelry plans live music downtown before its midnight countdown.
