Louisiana Voter Registration Week Brings Sign-Ups to Schools as November Deadlines Near
Registrars are holding events across Louisiana this week. Residents have until Oct. 5 to register in person or by mail, or Oct. 13 to register online for the Nov. 3 election.
BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana’s voter registration effort is moving into schools and communities this week, giving residents a chance to prepare for the Nov. 3 election before two October deadlines.
Secretary of State Nancy Landry and parish registrars of voters are promoting Louisiana Voter Registration Week from Sept. 21-25. In Lincoln Parish, Registrar of Voters Sharon Parnell visited Ruston High School to register eligible students, bringing the process to young people who may soon vote for the first time.
The deadline to register in person, by mail, or at an Office of Motor Vehicles location is Monday, Oct. 5. Residents using the state’s GeauxVote online registration system have until Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Louisiana residents may register at age 17, or at age 16 in person at a registrar’s office or Office of Motor Vehicles location. They must be 18 by the election to vote. Online registration requires a Louisiana driver’s license or special identification card. Residents can also register through their parish registrar of voters.
Already registered voters can check their information through the state’s voter portal. Anyone who has moved to another parish must update their registration for the new parish.
Early voting for the Nov. 3 election is scheduled for Oct. 20-27, excluding Sunday, Oct. 25. Parish registrars can provide details about registration events and voting locations.
