BATON ROUGE — Louisiana voters preparing for the Nov. 3 midterm elections should know where to vote, when to cast their ballots and what to do if problems arise at the polls.
The election comes as President Donald Trump faces questions about whether federal agents could appear at polling places. Trump has declined to rule out sending the National Guard or Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to voting locations. Election-law experts say such actions would face significant legal restrictions.
For Louisiana voters, the immediate priority is preparation.
Know before you go
Check your registration. Confirm that you are registered and that your information is current before Election Day.
Find your polling place. Your assigned Election Day location may differ from an early voting site. Check your parish’s official election information before heading to the polls.
Know the dates and hours. Louisiana’s official election calendar provides the deadlines for registration, early voting, absentee ballots and Election Day.
Bring the required identification. Review Louisiana’s voter identification requirements before voting.
Know your rights
Election administration remains the responsibility of state and local officials. Federal election observers may monitor procedures, but they are not authorized to interrogate voters or interfere with voting.
Federal law also prohibits intimidation, threats and coercion intended to interfere with a person’s right to vote. The restrictions reflect the nation’s history of voter intimidation, including the use of uniformed officers to intimidate Black voters during the Jim Crow era.
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has said the military has no plans to send federal troops or federalized National Guard personnel to polling places during the 2026 elections.
