BATON ROUGE, La. — Five Baton Rouge schools appear in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Week 4 football rankings, giving local fans a team to follow in every classification from Class 5A through Class 1A.

Catholic High is No. 9 in Class 5A with a 1-2 record. Madison Prep holds the No. 7 spot in Class 4A at 1-2, while University High is No. 5 in Class 3A, also at 1-2. Dunham is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A at 2-1 and received two first-place votes. Southern Lab, at 2-0, is No. 7 in Class 1A.

Baton Rouge schools in the Week 4 rankings

Class 5A: Catholic High is ranked No. 9 with a 1-2 record.

Class 4A: Madison Prep is ranked No. 7 with a 1-2 record.

Class 3A: University High is ranked No. 5 with a 1-2 record.

Class 2A: Dunham is ranked No. 2 with a 2-1 record. The Tigers received two first-place votes.

Class 1A: Southern Lab is ranked No. 7 with a 2-0 record.

The rankings show that several Baton Rouge programs have not been removed from the statewide conversation by an early loss. Catholic High, Madison Prep and University High each remain in their class’s top 10 despite losing two of their first three games. Dunham sits one place from the top of Class 2A, while Southern Lab enters Week 4 unbeaten.

Across Louisiana, Edna Karr leads Class 5A after extending its winning streak to 31 games with a victory over Ruston. Westgate tops Class 4A, St. James leads Class 3A, Calvary Baptist holds the No. 1 spot in Class 2A, and Ouachita Christian leads Class 1A.

The next stretch of games will give voters more to judge as teams move deeper into the season.
