Teen’s death on Bardwell Street investigated as homicide after gunshot wound discovered
A driver struck 17-year-old Kelvin Jackson while he was lying in a Baton Rouge roadway. Investigators later learned he had been shot, and police say the gunshot wound caused his death.
BATON ROUGE, La. — What first appeared to be a traffic incident on Bardwell Street is now a homicide investigation after police learned that the teenager struck by a vehicle had already been shot.
Kelvin Jackson, 17, was lying in the roadway near College Drive shortly after midnight Monday, Sept. 21, when a driver hit him, Baton Rouge police said. The driver stopped and found Jackson while checking what the vehicle had struck.
Jackson was taken to a hospital, where authorities discovered the gunshot wound. He later died from that injury, police said. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified him Tuesday.
Investigators have not said where or when Jackson was shot or how he came to be lying in the street. Police have not identified a suspect or a motive.
