Baton Rouge, La. — Donald R. Dunbar Jr., a native of South Baton Rouge and director of community engagement at the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, has been named a 40 Under Forty honoree by the Southern University Alumni Federation.
Dunbar, a first-generation college graduate, credited Southern University with shaping both his career and personal life. In a social media post, he said the university transformed him into a “servant leader” and instilled a commitment to service and giving back.
“It’s never been about recognition—it’s about impact, service, and paying it forward for my family and those who will come after me,” Dunbar said.
Throughout his career, Dunbar has worked at local, state, and national levels, including the Louisiana Capitol, the U.S. Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion, and the White House. He has also represented Southern University on international stages and at major sporting events such as the Super Bowl.
“Forever indebted. Forever grateful. Forever Southern,” Dunbar said.
