Purpose. Power. Film: The Gisele Haralson Story
A Woman in Film: A Tribute for International Women’s History Month
Gisele Haralson’s journey is not merely a story of career success—it is a testimony of purpose realized, resilience refined, and influence multiplied. Since publishing her first book in 2009, she has evolved into a dynamic force: a film producer, director, radio personality, educator, and accomplished author of four books. Her life’s work reflects a deep commitment to inspiring prosperity, productivity, and purpose in everyone she encounters.
Born on the South Side of Chicago to a single mother, Gisele was raised between two contrasting realities. Her father, a successful entrepreneur with extensive real estate and business holdings, embodied authority and affluence. Meanwhile, her mother labored to provide for her children, anchoring them in faith, prayer, and the principle that doing good for others invites goodness in return. This duality—of having and having not—became the soil in which her strength, perspective, and compassion were cultivated.
Her educational journey took her from high school in rural Mississippi to college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These formative experiences sharpened her resilience and broadened her vision, equipping her to rise above circumstance and walk boldly into purpose.
From such humble beginnings, the idea of becoming a filmmaker once seemed distant. Yet today, Gisele stands as the visionary behind “Who Said You Can’t: African American Women in Science,” a documentary currently streaming on major platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Google Play. She is now in production on a second documentary centered on wealth, with a third project set to begin filming this summer—clear evidence that her voice is not only present in the industry, but necessary.
After writing, directing, and producing her first documentary, Gisele discovered a powerful creative calling. What began as a leap of faith transformed into a fearless pursuit of storytelling in an industry known for its complexity and barriers. She turned adversity into access, and challenges into creative fuel. Along the way, mentors and supporters recognized her gift and poured into her journey, helping her refine her voice and expand her reach.
Gisele firmly believes in the power of women uplifting women. Her message is clear: every woman possesses the capacity to pursue her dreams by tapping into her own strength while drawing wisdom from others. She embodies what it means to walk in purpose while opening doors for those coming behind her.
Today, she lives by a simple yet profound conviction—anything is possible. In a time when stories shape culture and inspire change, Gisele Haralson stands as a living witness that no beginning is too humble, no dream too distant. Her life declares that purpose, when pursued with faith and determination, will always find its stage.
