Baker Is Getting Fresh: Carpenter to Bring Community Market to Life Saturday

BAKER, La. — Fresh produce, local honey, plants and community pride are coming together in Baker this weekend as State Rep. Barbara W. Carpenter hosts Baker’s Fresh Market, an event designed to put fresh food, local businesses and community connections at the center of the day.

The market is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the City of Baker School Board Office, 14750 Plank Road.

With the message “Support Our Community,” the event invites residents to come out, shop, connect and discover what local growers, producers and community organizations have to offer.

Shoppers can expect an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey, plants and more, creating an opportunity to bring healthier choices home while supporting those who are growing, producing and selling goods within the community.

But the event is about more than what is on the tables.

Baker’s Fresh Market brings together elected officials, community organizations, educators and other partners around a common goal: strengthening the community by creating opportunities for residents to connect with resources and support local commerce.

Carpenter is hosting the market with support from several sponsors and community partners, including C. Denise Marcelle, Future School, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center and state Sen. Regina Barrow, who represents District 15.

Their involvement adds a collaborative dimension to an event that is intentionally centered on Baker residents.

For families, the market offers a chance to shop for fresh food. For local vendors and producers, it offers a place to showcase their products. And for the community, it creates a gathering point where people can meet, exchange information and strengthen relationships.

The event also comes as communities across Louisiana continue looking for creative ways to improve access to fresh foods while supporting local economic activity. Baker’s Fresh Market puts those two priorities in the same place, right in the heart of the community.

Organizers are encouraging residents to come hungry, come ready to shop and, most importantly, come ready to support the community.
