HBCU Alumni Weekend to Celebrate Black College Legacy in Columbus
HBCU Family will bring HBCU alumni and supporters together in Columbus Sept. 10-13 for a weekend celebrating leadership, scholarship, and the enduring legacy of historically Black colleges and universities.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — HBCU Family is preparing for its 2026 HBCU Alumni Weekend, a four-day celebration bringing HBCU graduates, students and supporters together in Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 10-13.
The weekend will feature opportunities for fellowship, networking, scholarship, and recognition of HBCU alumni making a difference in their communities.
A highlight of the weekend will be the HBCU Alumni Scholarship & Awards Gala, scheduled for 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at The Gallery – Champions, 3900 Westerville Road.
Among this year's honorees is Tamara Hartley, a Howard University alumna who will receive the Leadership Achievement Award in recognition of her professional and community leadership.
The Columbus celebration also has a special connection to Baton Rouge Weekly Press Publisher Bishop Ivory D. Payne, who shared a personal message of congratulations for Hartley.

The HBCU Alumni Weekend continues a tradition of bringing together members of the HBCU community while honoring those who exemplify the values, achievement and legacy of historically Black colleges and universities.
