Baton Rouge Gas Prices Top $4 as Monthly Increase Hits 34 Cents
Regular gas averaged $4.04 a gallon in the Baton Rouge area Thursday, adding about $5 to the cost of a 15-gallon fill-up compared with a month ago.
BATON ROUGE, La. — Drivers entering fall are paying more at the pump. The Baton Rouge area average for regular gasoline reached $4.04 a gallon Thursday, Sept. 24, up from $3.69 a month earlier, according to AAA. That 34-cent increase adds roughly $5 to a 15-gallon fill-up.
The local average was about 5 cents higher than a week ago and $1.33 higher than at this time last year. Drivers who use diesel face a steeper bill: The Baton Rouge average was $6.01 a gallon Thursday, up about 69 cents in a month.
Louisiana’s statewide average for regular gas was $4.03, making it one of the least expensive states for fuel despite the recent rise. Nationwide, the average reached $4.48. AAA said high crude oil costs and volatility around the Strait of Hormuz are helping keep prices elevated during a season when they typically ease.
For Baton Rouge households, the difference is felt one trip at a time. A driver buying 15 gallons at the area average would pay about $60.56 Thursday, compared with about $55.42 a month earlier. Those figures are based on metro averages; the price at an individual station may differ.
