Louisiana Social Security Recipients: Who Gets Paid This Week

Louisiana residents receiving Social Security benefits should watch their bank accounts this week as the Social Security Administration continues its August payment schedule.

The next regular Social Security payment is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, for beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between Aug. 11 and Aug. 20. Another round of payments is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, for beneficiaries born between Aug. 21 and Aug. 31.

The payment schedule applies to Social Security beneficiaries in Louisiana and throughout the country.

When will Louisiana residents receive their August Social Security payments?

For most beneficiaries who receive Social Security based on a worker's earnings record, payment dates are determined by the birth date of the person whose work record the benefits are based on.

The August 2026 schedule is:

• Wednesday, Aug. 12: Birthdays from Aug. 1-10
• Wednesday, Aug. 19: Birthdays from Aug. 11-20
• Wednesday, Aug. 26: Birthdays from Aug. 21-31

Not everyone receives Social Security on a Wednesday

There are important exceptions to the regular Wednesday schedule.

People who received Social Security before May 1997 generally have their Social Security payment scheduled for the third day of the month.

People who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, generally receive Social Security on the third day of the month and SSI on the first day of the month.

The SSA also notes that when a regularly scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is generally issued on the preceding business day.

What if your payment doesn't arrive?

The Social Security Administration advises beneficiaries who do not receive their payment on the expected date to allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.

Beneficiaries should also check with their financial institution if they are expecting an electronic deposit.

Social Security remains important to Louisiana households

Social Security provides retirement, survivor and disability benefits to millions of Americans, including a substantial number of Louisiana residents.

SSA data for December 2025 show 992,482 Social Security beneficiaries in Louisiana. The state's beneficiaries include retired workers, disabled workers, survivors and family members receiving benefits based on a worker's earnings record.

For many Louisiana households, Social Security is an important source of monthly income that helps cover housing, food, utilities, transportation and other household expenses.

What about the 2027 Social Security COLA?

Louisiana beneficiaries are also watching for the next annual cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA.

The 2027 COLA has not yet been officially announced. Any percentage currently being reported as a possible 2027 increase is a projection, not a final benefit increase.

The Social Security Administration calculates the annual COLA based on inflation measures established by law. The official 2026 COLA was 2.8%.

Beneficiaries should be cautious about treating advocacy-group forecasts or other projections as the final 2027 increase until the Social Security Administration announces the official figure.

What Louisiana beneficiaries should know

For most Social Security recipients:

If your qualifying birthday is Aug. 11-20, your August payment is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19.

If your qualifying birthday is Aug. 21-31, your August payment is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Those who receive Social Security under an alternative payment schedule, including some beneficiaries who also receive SSI, should follow the payment date listed for their individual benefits.
