MINNEAPOLIS, MN. - UnitedHealthcare ("UHC") has issued a notification concerning a data security breach that potentially jeopardized the personal health information of select Louisiana residents.
On December 29, 2022, UHC discovered an unauthorized third-party intrusion into a restricted UHC broker portal, which served specific sections of the organization. Promptly, law enforcement authorities were alerted, initiating an investigative process.
By February 3, 2023, UHC verified that the unauthorized party had accessed information from the portal while attempting to redirect funds allocated for agents and brokers. Through a comprehensive inquiry, UHC ascertained that the unauthorized third party gained access to specific personal information from December 1, 2022, to January 25, 2023.
The compromised personal data varied on an individual basis but potentially encompassed the following:
Names
Member ID
Plan type
Country and state of residency
It's important to note that this incident did not entail the exposure of social security numbers, driver's license numbers, or any financial account information.
In response, UHC has implemented additional security measures on the UHC broker portal to mitigate the likelihood of similar occurrences in the future.
Those affected by this breach are currently in the process of receiving notifications, with a request to promptly report any suspicious activity to their respective health plans or relevant institutions.
