Baton Rouge, La – The National Weather Service in New Orleans forecasts an arctic air mass to move through the Baton Rouge area Thursday evening through Saturday, bringing bitterly cold temperatures. Currently, the coldest night is forecasted to be Friday night. Lows could reach the teens for some areas, with wind chill values in the single digits to near zero possible. Although it will be bitterly cold, the NWS forecasts dry weather for our area over the holiday weekend.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and The Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) closely monitor the latest weather forecasts. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome advises residents to have their winter weather preparations in place: “Remember to include your family, pets, pipes, and plants in your plans. These colder temperatures will increase the use of gas appliances; if these appliances are not working properly it could lead to carbon monoxide (CO) production. Test your CO and smoke detectors to ensure they are in proper working condition. Plan to stay indoors for holiday weekend activities.”

Residents are urged to use the following Red Stick Ready winter weather tips when preparing for the upcoming cold temperatures:
