Leroy Davis Announces His Candidacy for Mayor of Baker

Leroy Davis

Leroy Davis, a life-long Democrat, announces his candidacy for Mayor of Baker. The election will be held on July 11, 2020. I am a candidate for Mayor because I have the leadership skills, commitment and experience to improve our city. I will bring economic development, improvement to the infrastructure, sound financial management and reduced water bills back to the City of Baker.

Davis served 9½ years as a Councilman representing District 1 and was elected to serve out the unexpired term of a previous Mayor. He served as Mayor of Baker for 3½ years. During his term as Mayor, he was successful in bringing several new businesses to Baker including the Wal-Mart Super Center, Exxon on the Run, Murphy’s Discount Gas, Subway, Wendy’s and other businesses. He also led the city in population growth in that a new subdivision, Parc Chaleur, came during his administration.

Davis considers his experience as a former Councilman and Mayor, his knowledge of City government, its ordinances and procedures as some of his most important qualifications.

Davis earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Illinois. He has had a distinguished career as a College Professor and Administrator. He is a retired dean and professor from Southern University.

He currently serves as a member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors, Baton Rouge North Economic Development District and a Charter member of the Baker Lions Club. He has served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Baker Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and has been a member of the Executive Council of the Istrouma Area Boy Scouts of America. K. E. Popleon foundation board. He is a United States Army Veteran, and a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He has been an active member of the Baker Community for over forty years.
