Deborah Dean Robinson, a shining star in the gospel music galaxy, graced this world with her exceptional talent and unwavering dedication. She was born on February 16, 1953, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and embarked on a remarkable musical journey that spanned an astonishing 52 years.


From age 8, Deborah showcased an extraordinary aptitude for music, capturing hearts and souls with her prodigious talent. By age 11, her musical gifts were already enchanting churches and professionals, hinting at the incredible path she would carve in gospel music.

Nurtured by the love and faith her parents, Freddie and Mable Robinson instilled, Deborah’s roots were deeply intertwined with her family and her faith. Their support set the stage for the legacy she would leave behind.


A proud graduate of Southern Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, Deborah continued at Southern University, honing her skills as an accomplished pianist and a devoted organist. Her compositions weren’t just musical notes but spiritual symphonies resonating with profound devotion.


As a Gospel Prodigy and Music Minister, Deborah directed choirs to embody the very essence of devotion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of listeners. She was a soulful vocalist, able to captivate contemporary audiences and traditional gospel lovers alike. Her performances were a spiritual experience, touching the core of humanity.


Deborah was more than a performer; she was a founder and an innovator. She birthed the gospel group “Favor,” leaving an imprint on the genre that will endure through time. Her collaborations with gospel legends like Shirley Caesar, James Cleveland, and Albertina, alongside the Mississippi Mass Choir, showcased her exceptional talent and commitment to spreading the uplifting message of faith through music.


Acknowledged for her remarkable contributions, Deborah received the esteemed Baton Rouge Pioneers of Gospel Awards twice, an accolade reflecting her substantial impact on the gospel music community in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Minister Deborah Robinson passed away Tuesday October 03, 2023 at the age of 70. Musical tribute Thursday October 19, 2023 at 7:00pm - 8:00pm. Service is at 8:00pm - 9:00pm at Promise Land Baptist Church 7234 Plank Rd Baton Rouge, La 70811. Interment in Southern Memorial Garden at 10:00 am Saturday. Full obituary will be posted at later date. Professional Service entrusted to Resting Place Funeral Home.
