EBRP Head Start Program to Delay Face-to-Face Classroom Instruction Until COVID Cases Stabilize

BATON ROUGE, — In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of the health and safety of Head Start children, their families and staff, the East Baton Rouge Parish Head Start Program will delay face-to-face classroom instruction until COVID-19 cases stabilize in EBRP. The program will provide virtual services beginning September 8, 2020 until December 31, 2020. A poll of returning and new parents overwhelmingly favored virtual services.

As a part of the virtual plan, all children enrolled in the program will receive a tablet to connect with their assigned teacher for daily instruction and the program will provide internet connection to families as needed. Parents will receive all materials and supplies to reinforce class instruction. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be available weekly for drive-thru pick-up.

In addition to instructional services, the program will continue to provide support to children, families and staff while connected virtually. An assigned Family Advocate will contact Head Start families weekly to ensure the families’ well-being and address their needs through virtual engaged community partners.

For any questions, please contact Head Start Program Administrator Mrs. Juliette Semien at (225) 358-4504 or via email JSEMIEN@brla.gov
