Payment services giants Square and Cash App have swiftly resolved issues that briefly disrupted user access and payment processing. The incident, which began on Thursday afternoon, has been successfully mitigated, bringing relief to their vast user base.

Reports of service interruptions began to surface on Thursday, with data gathered by DownDetector indicating a substantial spike in outage reports. Square experienced over 18,000 reported outages, while Cash App faced more than 9,000 around 7 p.m. Eastern time.

Both Square and Cash App, subsidiaries of Block Inc., promptly kept their users informed regarding the status of the outages through their official websites and social media accounts.

Square went an extra mile by sending updates via email to ensure users remained well-informed.

Square, particularly popular among small businesses, acknowledged that some users encountered difficulties in accessing their accounts and processing payments. The company diligently worked to resolve these issues and, around 1:15 p.m. Eastern time, updated its website to confirm the full restoration of services.

"We can confirm that Square payments processing services have been restored. Thank you for bearing with us as our teams got functionality back up and running," Square announced in a post on Friday.

Additionally, Square unveiled plans for an upcoming Square Point of Sale update in the coming days, aimed at addressing issues faced by users of Square Stand and the Square Reader. Customers who encounter a message indicating their reader has been disconnected are advised to connect via Bluetooth while awaiting version 6.25.1, as outlined in a statement on Square's official website.

Cash App swiftly identified the root cause of the outage on Thursday night. In a 12:34 p.m. Eastern post on Friday, the company declared that it had successfully resolved "the majority of issues." However, Cash App cautioned users to remain patient as they might still experience slight delays during the recovery process.

The rapid response and resolution of these outages underscore the commitment of Square and Cash App to providing reliable and efficient payment services to their valued users. With services fully restored, customers can once again trust these platforms for their payment needs.
