Baton Rouge. LA - The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC) will host their annual Trick and Treat: Art Unleashed event on October 21 from 5-8 p.m. at City-Brooks Park, located at 1515 Dalrymple Dr, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. BREC Art,
in conjunction with BREC Dog Parks, will raise awareness for local dog shelters and adoption agencies as well as an appreciation for local art and BREC community parks.
This year’s event will also include a Poetry Slam contest for kids ages 8-12. Poets will be judged on their creative writing skills that let the community know what makes their dog special, the best, and most loved. Contestants will be judged in three categories including; Best in Show- considered the best overall poem capturing all the special things about having a dog in your life, Good Boy – what makes your dog the best; and Puppy Kisses – why do you love your dog?
Submissions are to be typed or handwritten on 8.5x11 paper. Submissions are to be emailed to robin.mcandrew@brec.org by Monday, October 19 at 5 p.m. Winners will be notified by email on Thursday, October 20. All winners will be recognized at the Trick and Treat: Art Unleashed event at 6 p.m., where they will read their winning poems on the event's main stage.
