BRAC Announces 2021 Capital Region Employee Health Innovation Award

Blue Cross and Blue Shield to present award spotlighting innovative health practices in Capital Region businesses

BATON ROUGE, La. —  The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) today announced it is now accepting applications for its 2021 Capital Region Employee Health Innovation Award. The award, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, will recognize companies in the region that implemented and promoted innovative practices during the pandemic to improve employees’ mental or physical health.

Applications are available to companies within the nine-parish Capital Region, regardless of size or whether the business is a BRAC investor, through Aug. 24, 2021 at brac.org/healthinnovation.

“Businesses were forced to flex and pivot more than ever before during the pandemic,” said Adam Knapp, president and CEO of BRAC. “Necessity is often the mother of innovation, and we are excited to spotlight effective practices that companies discovered to safeguard their most valuable asset – their people.”

Members from the business and health community will participate in a judges' panel to oversee the evaluation, selection and presentation of the Capital Region Employee Health Innovation Award.

“The pandemic was both a health and economic crisis, which meant businesses had to focus on both their employees’ health and their company’s bottom line in 2020. In prioritizing employees’ health and safety, many businesses have found creative ways to support the mental, emotional and physical health of their employees,” said Blue Cross Senior Vice President of Strategy and Innovation Darrell Langlois. “We want to promote these innovative companies—and share the learnings—with other organizations, as we all continue to navigate a new normal in the workplace.”

An honoree will be selected in both a small and large business category. To qualify for the Capital Region Employee Health Innovation Award, a business must:

  • Have employment presence within the nine-parish Capital Region,

  • Be able to demonstrate internal innovations and/or programs created in response to the pandemic that were implemented by the company or its employees that had a positive impact on the medical or behavioral health of employees, and will be continued,

  • Provide documentation related to innovations and/or programs.

Applications for the 2021 Capital Region Employee Health Innovation Award will be accepted through Aug. 24. Awards will be presented Sept. 21 at BRAC’s Monthly Lunch event at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library on Goodwood. Winners will also be recognized in press communications following the event.
