, La. – The Capital Region Planning Commission (CRPC) is proud to announce the election of Mayor Darnell Waites as its new Chairman during the February 8, 2023, meeting.

Mayor Waites, who has served as the Mayor of Baker for the past eight years, has been elected by a majority vote of the commissioners present and voting at the first regular meeting of the calendar year.


The CRPC, established in 1967, is the Metropolitan Planning Organization that serves the eleven-parish Metropolitan Statistical Area and provides comprehensive planning services for the Capital Region, including transportation and drainage. As the new Chairman of the Commission, Mayor Waites will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area.


Mayor Waites is honored to be elected as the Chairman of the CRPC and is committed to working with fellow board members and staff to ensure the best use of taxpayer funds. He stated, “I am honored to be chosen as Chairman of CRPC. I look forward to working with fellow board members and staff to ensure the best use of taxpayer funds as we strive to meet our current and future goals surrounding planning for the needs of the Metro Area.”


Jamie Setze, CRPC Executive Director, expressed his excitement about Mayor Waites’ election as Chairman of the Commission. He said, “I have enjoyed working with Mayor Waites during his last eight (8) years as mayor, and I am excited to have his leadership at a time of great opportunity in the Baton Rouge Metro Area.”


The Capital Region Planning Commission is thrilled to welcome Mayor Darnell Waites as its new Chairman and looks forward to working with him to promote comprehensive planning and development in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area. With his leadership and guidance, the CRPC will continue to provide the best services to the residents of the Capital Region.
